Office web apps, which is the current version plugin for Microsoft Office 2010, 2013, 2003, 2007 systems, allows you to open your documents directly from your browser in respective desktop Microsoft Office applications.

The Office Web Apps browser plugin lets you directly open Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents in the desktop based versions of Microsoft Office 2010 or Microsoft Office 2013. For example, in Word Web App, clicking Open in Word will open the document in Word 2013 or Word 2010, whichever is installed on your PC. On saving the document in Word, changes are saved back to the web location from where it was opened.
The plugin is part of Microsoft Windows 2010 so you don’t have to install it separately in this case. As of now, the current version of the plugin in Microsoft office 2010 is only available for the Mozilla Firefox (version 3.5 or later) browser.
After downloading and running the installation file for the plugin, you must restart Firefox. To uninstall the plugin, go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall programs > Select Office Web Apps Browser Plugin > Uninstall.
